As Kangema political battle lines continue to be strategically drawn, one of Kangema 2022 MP aspirant the director of Premier Peak Leadership Forum Juliah Chege yesterday held a conference with Ms. Anne Nderitu, Registrar of Political Parties, former PS Irungu Nyakera, ODM Women League President Hon Beth Syengo, Director WPA-K Beatrice Kamau, Hon Wahome Ndegwa Chair County Assemblies Forum among other elected and aspiring leaders on the theme "Understanding Political Parties in Kenya."
In the conference, madam Juliah insisted, "It is the early time women unite, work together, mentor one another and help one another" Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu said that we are in an election period and women should think, prepare and work through to take part in the forthcoming General Elections. She also insisted, "Two-third gender rule is mandatory to all political party nomination lists and women should be nominated in areas they are likely to win." Former PS Irungu Nyakera urged Kenyan Political Parties to include women in party leadership like NEC.
This comes a time when political elites led by politicians and strategists are having a hard time understanding political parties' popularity and ideologies as voters quest for civic education and awareness of the same in Kenya. This is due to the recent formation of more influential political parties especially in the Mt Kenya Region like UDA, PEP, CRP, Jubilee, TSP among others a political dilemma of a region dominated by a single party and voted as a bloc throughout history.
Juliah Chege is a scholar and currently pursuing Doctorate Degree and have shown capability to work with different gender and age groups from grassroots to national level in the country. Currently she's the National Chesion and Integration Commission Emblem of Election BilaNoma 2022 in the whole Central Kenya Region.
Juliah Chege is walking in the path and footsteps followed by great women leaders from Kangema Land the likes of Anne Wangari Kirima who was the only woman contesting for the Kangema mp seat in 2012 before being appointed by former President Mwai Kibaki as Chairperson of Kenya Investment Authority in 2013 and Hon Martha Wangari who was nominated as a Senator in 2013 and later won Gilgil parliamentary seat in 2017.
Julian Chege, the only woman aspirant in the Kangema parliamentary race will be joining the rest of the women aspirants in Muranga County where three women were elected as MPs in the National Assembly in 2017 and Kenya women aspirant at large. This is the third feminism wave that is live and political in nature to meet two-third gender rule as outlined in Kenyan Constitution 2010 Article 27(8). This wave is trying to overturn a scenario where women outnumber men on the ballot yet women are outnumbered by men in political leadership. Women over history have won first and second feminist waves.
Juliah Chege who hails from Rwathia in Kangema through Premier Peak Leadership has been at the forefront in advocating for leadership and agribusiness farming especially arrowroots farming which is one of the booming agribusiness farming as well as poultry farming especially chicken farming through giving out chicks and extension services to farmers and groups rearing chicken.
On girls' and women's welfare and empowerment, she has been at the forefront in offering guidance psychology, and counseling to women as well as guidance and counseling and mentorship programs to Kangema school girls and boys who face challenges such as early pregnancies, lack of hygiene essentials and drugs and substance abuse.
There are many social-cultural factors that affect women such as domestic and gender-based violence thus a need for intervention, especially in physical and psychological aspects.
In realization of youths are the cornerstone of most social, economic and political activities in the society, Juliah has engaged youths in many activities ranging from games and sports, identifying and nurturing talents, income-generating activities such as farming as well as advising youths on the dangers of drugs and substance abuse and other anti-social behaviors and vices in the society that disrupt social order.
