Ugandan politician, activist, singer, actor, businessman and philanthropist Robert Kyagulanyi alias H.E. Bobi Wine the Kyadondo East constituency mp has been nominated by Electoral Commission, to contest for the presidential seat in 2021 General Elections.
The 38 years old Kyagulanyi, the NUP party leader and opposition figure will be hoping to oust National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leader dictator Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who has been in power for 34 years who changed the age limit of 75, to remain in power as he's now 76 years old. Also on the ballot will be other ten candidates nominated to contest for the same.
After his confirmation, he shared his manifesto with his supporters during his acceptance speech and focused on the following agenda;
1. Separation of powers between military and police as well as increment of police and millitary officers salary with a minimum of one million per month.
2. Employment to create five million jobs to Ugandans.
3. Access to affordable healthcare for all Ugandans.
4. Free Freedom.
5. Education for all.
6. Agriculture for cash and food crops in every zone.
7. Science and Technology.
8. Water and Electricity.
He also announced much anticipated February 2021 Elections will be a revolutionary election not an ordinary election. He receives much support from poor Ugandans and youths in a country where 75 percent of total 40 million population are below 35 years of age meaning they were born when Museveni was still in power.
But Bobi Wine was arrested immediately after nominations by armed police and military who broke his car windows with spanners before dragging him to police van. He was detained for hour before his release later in the evening. As presidential campaigns begin, Bobi Wine might have to put grill on his car windows as Besigye used to do to minimise injury to passengers and cost of repairing shattered glasses.
His main rival to State House is incumbent president Museveni who during his acceptance speech announced that he fought to be where he is. He rose to power in 1986 after his Popular Resistance Army fought Idi Amin and Milton Obote for years.
In the past elections, Museveni's main rival was Dr Kizza Besigye, the founding leader of the Forum for Democratic change-FDC who declared that he will not appear on the ballot as a presidential candidate in the 2021 elections. Besigye was subjected to police harassment, brutality and arrests throughout his presidential elective politics.
Uganda's main problems range from corruption, unemployment and poverty.
But Uganda should be ready for the first bloodless revolution.
