Kangema Public Land Grabbing; Witemere Phase II

Since recently Kangema Public Land has been open for grab which had agitated or irritated majority of Liberal minded Kangema people who oversaw the grabbing of public land during the time of municipal council which was referred to as 'witemere'. To worsen the situation, it has been aided by Cartels either employed by Muranga County Government or working with it at Kangema Sub-County  or even local leaders and politicians who are the mastermind of these grabbings. 

Any potential land grabber has to meet with these cartels and pay ransom of money ranging from 50,000 to 500,000 depending on the size and location of the public land to be grabbed after which land grabber privately develop the land and upon completion, they either pay the required amount of money to Muranga County Government for business permit or lease these properties to innocent Kangema people at a hiked price. Poor Kangema people themselves are not allowed to either build any structure, a kiosk or even bring a container on these public land unless they meet the asking ransom or else become tenants while the land grabbers become their landlords. 

Most of these public land grabbing usually happens at night, very early in the morning or during weekends. Just today, two plots had been grabbed one at the gate of Kangema Police Station while the second attempted plot to be grabbed was opposite Kangema Bus Station where bodaboda had build their shed but land grabbers plan failed after the area bodaboda operators objected. This is the second time these bodaboda operators are objecting planned grabbing of their shed as earlier attempts in 2018 hit the stone.

There has been public outcry over the issue as it has seen new buildings and structures built on public land as well kiosks and containers belonging to these Cartels and land grabbers. But any member of the public who questions these grabbings is either directed to area local leaders, Sub- County offices or even to County Government Offices. Any effort by residents to picket on grabbed sites during construction are either met with armed paid goons or with local leaders calling for calm and to address the issue in office which never materialize.

Cut down Michuki flowers and trees at the gates of Kangema Police Station for private development

To add a salt into the would, these land  grabbers and Curtels are cutting down trees and flowers planted by former Environment Minister and Kangema MP Hon John Michuki for their selfish gain which is really paining Kangema Residents who remembers the former Minister for his efforts to beautify Kangema Town by trees and flowers.

KANGEMA MASHINANI has been informed of a planned mega peaceful demonstrations which is being planned in Kangema Town by liberal minded Kangema Residents who are tired of these Cartels and land grabbers and will picket and match to Kangema Sub-County Offices to express their anger and dissatisfaction over the ongoing land grabbing in Kangema Sub-County which  they now refer as 'witemere phase II'. Despite their outcry; National Government, County Government, NLC and NEMA has remained dumb on these cutting down of trees and flowers planted by Hon Michuki as well as grabbing of these public land.
